Description: At 26 inches long I'm sure this saw is original length, it needs breasted badly making it hard to sight for straightness, it doesn't look bad but I'll say it isn't a user due to the work needed in breasting. This medallion said to be from the late 1840's to early1850's, I would put this one early by the cut of the handle and the italicized die stamp. The Disstonian calls it a mirror image of the optimistic eagle medallion but the lettering and other detail give it a finer look, I have noticed these medallions always have handles cut closer to the type 1 medallion than the optimistic eagle medallion. These are a much scarcer variation for sure. Sadly the early repair is not as elegant as the original lambs tongue but with the wear and patina on this repair it really shouldn't be restored. Just above the EXTRA in the die stamp you can see the traces of the eagle stamp Disston used early on, if you zoom in on the brightest of the pics you may catch it. Early and scarce, make an offer. For information on old tools the resources at Mid West Tool Collectors Association are top notch.
