1864 Georgia Currency - Chancellorsville Battlefield Relics - 4498

Description: The original hand signed 1864 “The State of Georgia” - “Twenty Dollars” note was issued from Milledgeville, Georgia. The note has the hand inscribed serial number “3342” and has the faint green Treasury seal on the right. The note was printed by “Howell, Engr” of Savannah, Georgia. The vignette in center is Moneta seated with state arms in background. Original lead ammunition found on the Chancellorsville Battlefield in Virginia. The bullet at center is a .58 Federal issue made in the Northern arsenals. It hasn’t been fired; whether from the paper cartridge breaking or that it was possibly wet and discarded. The one at left is a Confederate issue .57 Enfield either imported from England or made with imported molds. The one at right is a .58 Federal issue Williams Cleaner used to clean black powder residue out of the rifle barrel. They all used a paper cartridge which has not survived in the ground. The patina is due to oxidation and ground action. The Battle of Chancellorsville was fought from April 30 to May 6, 1863, near the village of Chancellorsville. Two related battles were fought nearby on May 3 in the vicinity of Fredericksburg. The campaign pitted Union Army Maj. Gen. Joseph Hooker's “Army of the Potomac” against an army less than half its size, General Robert E. Lee's Confederate “Army of Northern Virginia”. They are mounted in an 8” x 12” Riker style case with glass front. The artifacts are just pressed in, we don’t glue them in. All of the artifacts are guaranteed to be original Civil War issue or as stated. A hand signed and dated “Certificate of Authenticity” will be issued by Collectors Frame with a photograph and description of the items purchased. The write ups shown will come with the display. Please see our "About” for more information on the framing and artifacts.
