Description: 1872 Mexican Silver 25 Centavos , Zacatecas Mint Zs H MEXICO - Republic - AR 25 Centavos, 1872, Zacatecas Mint. This specimen was struck at Zacatecas, an early date of a type struck there 1870-90. This date is noted as fairly common however like many dates of the balance scale twenty-five centavos specimens in high grade are rare to find. Recorded mintage: 250,000. Obverse: Scales draped with paper inscribed LEY - topped by liberty cap, 25 CENTAVOS Zs H Reverse: Eagle and snake arms of Mexico, REPUBLICA MEXICANA above, date 1872 below. However, from 1918 onward, the weight and fineness of all the silver coins declined, until 1977, when the last silver 100-peso coins were minted.
