CARE has provided Mexico with more than 150 million pounds of American "food for peace" since 1961, mostly dried milk and flour. In collaboration with the Mexican national institute for the protection of children (INPI), under the direction of Mrs. Eva Samano de Lopez Mateos, wife of the president of Mexico, CARE helps feed two million Mexican children every day. INPI transports the foods to more than 12,000 schools and institutions. It prepares and serves the meals. The Mexican government hopes to expand the program to help three million children by 1965. Harold Gauer, midwest regional director for CARE in Milwaukee, visited Mexico last week for a look at the food program.
