A check for $100,000 has been presented to Lawrence University by the Kimberly-Clark Corperation, it was announced Monday. The gift pushed the university's $10 million fund drive past the $3 million mark. The institution began the drive last November and plans to continue through 1974 to reach the $10 million goal. The announcement of the gift was made by Frederic O. Leech, chairman of the Lawrence University Board of Trustees. He received the check along with university President Thomas S. Smith from J.J. Shipman, who cited the company's long association with Lawrence and expressed hope that the gift would set an example for other industries, said that the gift "recognizes that higher education is fundamentally important to business." The campaign for the Lawrence campus includes goals of $3.7 million for a new library; $3.5 million for endowment; $625,000 each for expansion of the Worcester Art Center and an addition to Youngchild Hall of Science; $500,000 for renovation of the 119 year old Main Hall; $750,000 for renovation of other buildings and $250,000 for land acquisition.
