In 1871, Abel Chapman made his first trip to Spain and was fascinated by the wildlife of the Iberian Peninsula, discovering it together with his friend and associate J. Buck, an enthusiastic naturalist. From this first trip, Chapman repeated his visits once or twice a year. Together they published two texts dedicated to Spain: Wild Spain, and Unexplored Spain. The first was published in London in 1893, when Buck had been residing in Spain for a quarter of a century. It was first translated into Spanish in 1963, under the direction of Count Yebes and the second book appeared in 1910 and was translated into Spanish in 1989, under the direction of Antonio López.
