Monty is very key to Simmons' early success in media and television as Monty had Simmons as himself as a recurring character on 'General Hospital' bolstering his awareness and his TV image. Monty also was instrumental (as shown in the inscription) in helping Simmons start his first weight loss program 'Live It'. An important association in pop culture and in the success arc of Simmon's career. Considering the impact Simmons has had on health culture and the eating habits of millions of Americans, Monty's indirect influence on the general health awareness of Americans is difficult to quantify. Provenance: We acquired the library and some personal effects of TV producer Gloria Monty (1921 – 2006) and her husband, writer Robert O’Byrne (1917 – 1991). Monty is notable for having been the Executive Producer for the soap opera icon 'General Hospital' (1978 – 1987; 1990 – 1992). She was responsible for saving the show from cancellation by increasing the pace of the show and focusing the storylines to appeal to younger audiences. O’Byrne was an author and outdoor sports writer / editor for ‘Sports Afield’. He authored two golf books ‘Senior Golf’, and ‘Golfer’s Guide to Travel’. We have several hundred interesting titles including several inscribed / signed copies to Ms. Monty in addition to a few dozen books related to or about golf from Mr. O’Byrne’s library.
