Description: In this listing I am offering a unique find - 40+ Vintage - WWI Muslin Red Cross Bags - Collectibles & Crafts These were made in 1914-1917 era by the Sherrill Kenwood Chapter of the American Red Cross. The one in the first photo is marked Front Line Parcel NO.2. They were used to package medical supplies and dressings for injured soldiers in WWI. These were cut and sewn by the women of the Oneida Community in support of the war effort. Most of the bags were not stamped, and they were never sent out because of the end of the war. A large box of them was recently discovered in the attic of the factory during renovation project. Only a few have the lettering - most are plain. They are a common rough fabric of muslin - off white (ecru - eggshell color) - most are about 5 x 5 inches with a flap. The ones you receive will not have the lettering (if you are collecting for military memorabilia, I can include one with the lettering.) I can also include a reprint of an excerpt from the Hospital Corps Quarterly from 1921 describing the items and their use. They make excellent packaging (with a background story) for vendors. They are also useful for crafts - sample fabric for embroidery or redwork. Buyer pays for $6 shipping from Central NY. I can send for $6 - keeping package weight just under 1 pound to keep the shipping cost down. I have several hundred which I would like to move on the someone who could use them. I am a "pack rat" and I can't bring myself to letting them be destroyed or thrown out. Thank You for your interest.
