Antique 35" Patent Washable Papier Mache Doll w/Wig & Molded Boots Straw Stuffed

Description: Estate Find.....Beautiful Antique 35" Patent Washable German Papier Mache Doll w/ Wig & Molded Boots.This doll is what collectors refer to as a "Patent Washable" type. Despite what the name implies she is NOT washable and the finish will be affected if she becomes wet. Circa 1880-1915, she is in good condition (with cracking around the eyes). She has papier-mache composition shoulder head, lower arms and legs with molded high heel boots. Her (human hair) auburn wig is probably original. She has beautiful 'bulging' brown glass eyes, closed mouth and blushed cheeks. Her body was made of sized cotton stuffed with straw. Her arms are dangling and need to be reinforced.The "Patent Washable" type dolls were made in Germany by a number of firms from the late 19th century on into the 1920s and were manufactured in a variety of sizes (oftentimes using the same sized head & just by adding extra length to the torso and legs). Distributed throughout North America by the firm of Butler Brothers, they were reasonably priced and popular dolls easily found in general stores and the like.
