Description: For your consideration is a very nice Awaji pottery vase. Awaji Island is part of Japan and started firing pottery back in the 1850s through to the 1920s. The potters were masters in their field that resulted in beautiful forms and vibrant glazes. This vase is a beautiful honey brown glaze with metal wire that has been woven. I think this wire is brass, but will also say bronze as most on the internet is saying that its bronze. The weaving is done to strengthen the pottery and protect it from chips, nicks, cracks, etc. This piece is free from chips, nicks, cracks, etc. except on the base. (please see photos.) There is no incised stamp mark which makes this piece from the late 1800s. The vase stands at 9.75-inches tall.
