Description: DC COMICS HUSH featuring the Art of JIM LEE A twelve-part story that ran from Batman #608 to Batman #619, JEPH LOEB and Jim Lee's HUSH was epic superhero storytelling -- a maxi-series event hidden within the regular numbering of an ongoing series, differing only from other such events like Crisis on Infinite Earths or Marvel's Secret Wars by virtue of its scope. Where the latter events were outwardly expansive in their scope, HUSH was inwardly explorative, as its story was both a tour of Gotham's criminal underworld - the world of The Batman - and of the villains which dwell there, as well as a "deep dive" into Batman's own past, raising the stakes of the story as events became ever more personal for The Dark Knight. HUSH was also a mystery and an investigation into that mystery. Batman as Detective was very much at the fore in a story that also encouraged the reader to participate and solve the story's central question: Who is HUSH? Along the way, the reader is treated to a great many things: (1) a terrific cast of Batman's villains as well as all the heroes who stand at his side -- Nightwing, Huntress, Robin, Oracle and more (2) the official beginning of the true romance between Batman and Catwoman, from which all stories since have stemmed (3) outstanding sequences of Batman as a superhero, especially showcased in Batman #612's issue long battle between Batman and a Poison Ivy-controlled Superman (4) and the introduction of a new Batman villain, HUSH, a fresh character unsaddled by continuity yet one that would persevere beyond the confines of the issues in which he was featured. All that said, one thing that HUSH perhaps was, above all else, was an undeniable visual treat that showcased the tremendous talent of superstar JIM LEE. Batman #608-619 was like stage on which Jim Lee performed, the court to which he brought his A-Game on every page and especially on every cover. That he did, along with Loeb's excellent story-telling and the story's supremely accessible nature, made Batman's HUSH story-arc a fantastic and lasting success, hugely popular when it first hit (in late 2002 and for much 2003) and remaining so today. For readers coming to the story while it was in-process, DC published the BATMAN HUSH DOUBLE FEATURE one-shot roughly half-way through the ongoing arc. With a cover date of June 2003 and hitting comic shops in April 2003, the Double Feature reprinted the first two parts of the HUSH arc from Batman #608 (Dec 2002) and Batman #609 (Jan 2003). The print run of the Double Feature, of course, didn't come close to those of the original Batman issues, but it did offer, with its reprinting of Batman #609, the FIRST APPEARANCE of DR. THOMAS ELLIOT, who would later be revealed as HUSH himself. In this way, a new Batman collectible was born. Give your collection what it deserves ... today!
