A very showy decorative corn, with rich, deep red to maroon color! Stalks can grow 10-14' tall and typically grow 2-6 ears per stalk. "Bloody Butcher" is a dent, heirloom corn variety. It gets its name from the vibrant color of the kernels that reminded people of the bloody aprons of the local butcher. This corn is not only popular for autumnal displays, but is very tasty to eat. It falls within the "dent" corn family, as opposed to yellow sweet corn. Harvest the ears young if you would like to try eating them fried or roasted. Grow to maturity and dry well to use them to mill/grind for cornbread. Both sweet and dent corns need the same kinds of growing conditions and care, but dent corn (corn for display or drying) needs to stay on the stalk longer. I have found this corn to make the best cornbread--smells like popcorn when cooked and tastes awesome with butter and honey! Planting Depth: 1-1.5" deep, planted in rows 3' apart with 2' between plants. Plant in full sun. It is typically time to harvest after 110 days when the kernels are fully swollen.
