This image came out of an early photo album mid 1860s and ID'd to May Jenkins family Montgomery Center Vermont. This cdv format is consistent with mount formats for images 1860- 1865. The sitting likely occurring during a period of Civil War conflict when the country was in historic conflict between North and South as the question of Emancipation for Enslaved African Americans was being trust into the forefront by Abraham Lincoln's quest for freedom of all enslaved people in the Confederate States. This town sits right on the Canadian border edge and provided the gateway for African Americans moving into safer communities in Canada. A rare sitting and historic perspective.
