Description: A Certificate of Authenticity will accompany this specimen. Here is a very nice fossil ammonite, from the Jurassic, about 165 million years ago. From Belfort, in northeastern France. It is a Kosmoceras ammonite, measuring about 75 mm. at the longest (2.95")> The matrix it is on is about 155 mm. (6.1"), and it weighs 1 lb. 10.75 oz. The ammonite is in-Situ, meaning this is the original "resting spot" for this ammonite. No paint or restoration has been added. The matrix stone is absolutely loaded with remnants of other fossils. Impressions left by ammonites tiny and large. There is even a superb little fossil gastropod, a turritella. The fossils in the matrix are as cool as the Kosmoceras, in our opinion. This is from an old find, part of a massive collection collected in the 1960's. The person who dug these wrote a short code "90F" on a piece of cloth, that can be removed if you want to. . The ammonite was found near Belford, which is in Region 90 in France. You can pull the little cloth tag off if you want, we thought it looked cool left as is. A fantastic addition to an ammonite collection. We are happy to enclose a COA (Certificate of Authenticity). Some words of caution about COA’s: Do not let them become a substitute for learning about the specimens. We have been working with fossils and minerals for many years, and we have seen hundreds of very nice-looking COA’s, some that are wrong, mis-describing a specimen. Finally, a COA without a photo of the exact item described, as part of that COA, is worthless, as it can later be placed next to any other fossil or mineral.
