Description: Fritiof Albin Persson California Art Seascape Oil Painting Listed Swedish Artist Description and Item Information Up for sale is this beautiful, vintage seascape oil on canvas board painting by the listed artist Fritiof (aka Fritioff) Albin Persson. Please excuse any glare in the photos. This painting depicts a rocky coastal scene, with crashing ocean waves. The water is blue and there are clouds on the horizon. The painting is housed in a gold-finished wooden frame with a grayish engobe wash; the frame is more recent than the painting. The canvas board measures approximately 7 15/16 inches by 10 inches, and the sight area is a bit smaller. The exterior frame dimensions are approximately 16 1/8 inches by 18 1/8 inches. Unpacked, this piece weighs 6 pounds 3.7 ounces. It would be a fine addition to a collection of vintage art. Identification This painting is by the listed Swedish-American artist, Fritiof Albin Persson (1897-1957). As it is undated, the exact age is not known. A previous owner affixed a biography from Edan Hughes to the back side, as shown. Per askART (also from Hughes), Persson was born in Sweden in 1897. After serving in the Canadian Army during World War I, he moved to the United States. Persson studied at the Art Students League in New York City. Beginning around 1930, he lived in Los Angeles, California and he spent time in the Mojave and Colorado deserts. He passed away in San Bernardino, California. Persson exhibited at Painters and Sculptors of Los Angeles during the 1930s, at the Society for Sanity in Art, at Academy of Western Painters in Los Angeles during 1938, and at the Scandinavian-American Art Society and the Golden Gate International Exhibition during 1939. Condition This piece looks great overall, as shown. The frame has very light wear. In my opinion, this piece is ready to hang and enjoy.
