Description: With Ju Ju Man (1976), Gary Bartz cemented his developing reputation as one of the strongest, most distinctive young saxophonists of his time, working in the tradition of John Coltrane. Gary Bartz made a name for himself backing Miles Davis during the early 1970s. In this album he is backed by a superb rhythm throughout featuring Howard King, a young, compulsively fiery percussionist who had matured nicely working with Bartz for some four years. The section also included Charles Mims, a versatile pianist who could lock into a groove and work it for all its worth, while Curtis Robertson provided a solid, cohesive foundation for Bartz’ driving saxophone. The highlight of the album might be their sensitive accompaniment to Syreeta’s soulful rendition of My Funny Valentine. This is the 2012 reissue on Catalyst Records. The vinyl is thick, has minimal surface wear that does not affect a great sounding record in excellent shape. The outer sleeve is a sturdy thickness and in excellent shape, very clean overall. The inner sleeve has been replaced with a vinyl sleeve. Will be packed up properly for shipping.
