Description: I believe, but am not certain, that I bought this necklace in the mid-late 1980s, from locals, who comb the numerous dig sites, in the area of Manta, Ecuador. I do know that it's an authentic pre-columbian piece as I've been collecting these for 40+ years. It is a jadeite necklace with 36 hand-hewn beads and one larger jade (possibly) bead as a pendant. I strung the necklace myself to incorporate the larger pendant and sometimes wore it. It's about 13 inches long and most the beads are about 3/8" diameter .. relatively small. It weighs only 1.5 oz. The beads (except for the larger one) are likely from the Manteno culture, which existed in the area from 850 to 1600, or possibly the earlier Valdivia culture.
