Its H*VENT system is designed to relieve pressure in an open chest wound causéd by air in the pleural cavity (pneumothorax) or bodily fluid (hemothorax). The unique H*VENT design allows fluids to drain in multiple directions, towards gravity. This allows for patient transport in a variety of positions (on their side, etc.). This innovative system includes 6 individual vents, which means even if some become blocked, as long as one is functional it will work as intended. A dome-shaped membrane ensures a complete seal around the wound. This provides easy visual monitoring - the dome billows up if air or fluid are leaving the chest, and is sucked down when the seal is in place.
