Description: BLING THE ALARM!...JULIANA (designed by Delizza & Elster) bib necklace. Referred to as "Easter Egg," probably because of the speckled 'stippled' multi-colored appearance of some of the larger cabochons. The 'Easter egg' matrix stippled' cabochons are accented with chaton and pear-shaped emerald green, orange, topaz, topaz aurora borealis, and peridot aurora borealis rhinestones. The pieces have a mix of open back and foiled back rhinestones in a variety of shapes and sizes. Heavy gold-plated base metal.Measures over 15"L by 2 1/8" (at widest central point). Attaches via a fishhook style clasp.Confirmed JULIANA and illustrated in many vintage jewelry books (page 209 of Christie Romero's "Warman's Jewelry" and page 174 of Leigh Leshner's "Rhinestone Jewelry", to name a few). It has the pooled soldering, the mix of large art glass stones and rhinestones, the use of open back and foiled rhinestones, the 5 link bracelet construction, and the findings consistent with JULIANA jewelry. JULIANA jewelry was never signed and was sold with hang tags.Very good to excellent vintage condition. No issues. The aurora borealis and green rhinestones exhibit great depth and fire, are all original, and are all intact. Ravishing!!!A rare opportunity to acquire an increasingly valuable JULIANA necklace that will only go up as time passes. Great investment!Book reference here can be found on page 266 of Ann Pitman's 'Juliana Jewelry Refence, Delizza & Elster'.Juliana costume jewelry was produced by DeLizza & Elster, which was founded in 1947 to manufacture everything from buttons and buckles to pins and pendants for such venerable costume jewelers as Hattie Carnegie, Hobe, Kenneth J. Lane, and Weiss. In 1967, chief designer Frank DeLizza and business partner Harold Elster decided to create a brand of their own by placing paper tags with the Juliana trademark on some of their pieces. The brand lasted barely two years, but it became synonymous with DeLizza & Elster.Vintage Juliana pieces (which include unlabeled pieces created before 1967 as well as those with Gloria and Tara hang tags) typically feature vibrantly colored rhinestones such as aurora borealis, clear crystals, faux hematite, and fake opals. Striking colors such as purple and teal or green and pink are routinely combined. In other Juliana pieces, large speckled (or "Easter egg") cabochons are set within rings of smaller, colored stones.
