As for suitable yarns: for adult figurines, fine 1 ply yarns such as Venne in white and a contrasting colour and a pair of old UK 16 (1.5 mm., US 000) knitting needles; for figurine children: a thinner yarn such as soft crochet cotton or embroidery silk (3 strands) and pair of old UK 16 (1.5 mm., US 000) needles. I photographed the outfits on the beach at Lyme Regis in the UK on a sunny morning in October; a local coffee shop/restaurant had its sunshine parasols up over the outdoor tables (or were they there to dissuade the herring gulls from stealing the food off the tables!). This quite an easy pattern and quickly made.
