NWT Vintage I.MAGNIN Pillbox Hat Ivory Silk Mid 60’s Size Sm 6¾ Excl’t Cond.

Description: This sweet pillbox hat (it’s really referred to as a bubble hat said my mother) is made with an ivory colored Shantung silk fabric which is a sturdy weave making it both well structured and light. Beginning in the very center of the hat’s dome folds of silk fan out and down the bubble and fold tightly under the brim. The bubble shape of this hat reminds me of those ancient Chinese Royals in the Qing Dynasty - simple and striking in its beauty and timeless elegance. CONDITION - Excellent. It’s unused, unworn and unbelievably clean. There are a couple of areas with small indentations from age. Nothing distracting and something you can fix with a little water and a blow dryer. SIZE & MEASUREMENTS- all measurements are approximate - This is a Size Small women’s hat - Its inner circumference is 21” - Its outer circumference is 23” All that being said the hat would be considered a womens hat size 6¾. Also from brim to the tippy top the measurement is approximately 5½” OTHER DETAILS -The hat is lined with a soft peach flesh colored silk and has attached on the inner rim two small combs to help anchor the hat to one’s head. - This charming hat was both created and sold by the premier luxury department store , I.Magnin & Co. in San Francisco in the mid 50’s - We know this because the hat’s price tag remains on it priced at what seemed to be a modest $35. But I was completely wrong. For fun I just looked up how much $35 in 1953 would be worth today…So if today I were to price the hat accordingly, it would cost between $400 - $412! Can you believe it?!
