Description: Jose Garcia Payon In 1929, he was honored as the head of the Department of Archaeology of the State Government of Mexico. He began archaeological explorations in Tecaxic-Calixtlahuaca between 1930 and 1938 of paying special attention to the monumental architecture. He made excavations at Matlatzinca and Malinalco and later at the Center Veracruz, particularly in Cempoala, El Tajin and Huaxteca, to mark the paths of the future archaeological research in these regions, setting the theoretical foundations of their cultural development to the extent that photographic library today bears his name. García Payón fulfilled administrative functions as director of the Central Public Library of the State of Mexico, work that developed until 1934; then the Museum of Archaeology of the organization was founded, following guidelines in vogue on research and museology acquired during their stay in different countries. In 1936 he finally joined the Department of Monuments, same as two years later became the INAH, institution for which he conducted research on archaeological sites in the states of Mexico and Guerrero; also it undertook an extensive tour of Totonacapan, Veracruz.
