Primitive Shaker Ladder Back Chair 3 Slat Side Chair Ladderback STURDY

Description: Primitive Shaker Ladderback Chair is handmade. Antique preowned item. Exact age is not known, but estimated to be approximately late 19th - early 20th century. Beautiful surface patina attributed to age, gentle use and storage only affirms this chair’s long life history. There are a few old repairs that can be seen in photos. The stretcher that goes across the front turns but does not come out of the holes in the legs. Could be reinforced with some wood glue. Will leave that up to buyer to decide. There is a spot below that stretcher on the left front leg that appears to have been filled in with some sort of old putty wood filler. The back left leg has been repaired at some point by cutting off the bottom and adding a dowel. This repair is surprisingly sturdy. Splint woven seat looks old but not sure if original. SEE PICS No wobble. All joinery is tight EXCEPT for the front stretcher mentioned above and the middle slat has a little bit of play in it. I only mention it to be as thorough as possible in the description. Nothing unexpected and nothing that detracts from function or beauty. The backrest risers have a slight, intentional bend (see side profile). It is smaller / lower profile sized with a lower than standard seat height of approximately 15”. While it is a smaller scale than a standard dining chair, it is super strong and solid - and can comfortably and safely support a 150 lb adult. It could have been a sewing chair, child’s chair or woman’s chair. Would look great next to a hearth fireplace and could also hold a plant or doll or other displayed items when building a vignette. Not sure what kind of wood it is. It may actually be a mix of woods. It is lighter weight than expected overall, weighing only about 6 lbs. Comes from a clean, dry, smoke free environment.
