Description: This is a very rare Santon doll, made in France in the 1880s. Her clothing is very fragile as can be seen in the photos. Her bonnet has completely disintegrated with age, leaving the cotton underneath exposed. She was made sitting down and if she had a chair, it has apparently been lost or broken. I have had her for years and have had a tin as her chair that is just the right high for her to sit on. I always intended to find a chair for her to sit on but never did. She was created by hand from terracotta in Province, France, in the mid or late 1800s and represents a peasant woman where it looks like she is preparing to spin yarn. Her dress is not removeable but pasted on and represents the dress of a French peasant. She is 9 inches tall.
