This is a first edition copy published in December 1946. This first edition was limited to 2000 copies and each was a presentation copy, possibly presented to employees for Christmas. This copy was presented to "Mr Dix" (if I have read it correctly) and the name has been beautifully written on the presentation page. THE WISDOM OF THE AGES is a collection of proverbs illustrated photographically which, during the period from 1936 to 1946, formed the basis for the advertising of Textile Machine Works. Each page features a wonderful monochrome photograph which illustrates a proverb that is written underneath. There are some absolutely delightful proverbs such as "You must lose a fly to catch a trout", "A hen does not quit scratching just because the works are scarce" and "Truth needs no flowers of speech". THE WISDOM OF THE AGES has been completed with a blue buckram hardcover with gold writing. Measures 31cm in height, 23.5cm in length and 2cm thickness. Weighs 1355 grams. Presented in acceptable vintage condition for its 75 years of age. There is some yellowing and foxing to the pages as you would expect. Also expected is the light wear to the edges and corners of the pages and buckram cover. The book does have sun bleaching / fading to the spine and the rear cover as pictured.
