Description: UNIQUE VINTAGE 11-1/2” INCHES REPRODUCTION OF MICHELANGELO'S DAVID STATURE BY G. RUGGERI Beautiful reproduction of Michelangelo's David (crated: 1501-4), one of the World's most known statures, designed by Gino Ruggeri (Italian sculptor, 1883-1955), who developed a process of mixing alabaster with resin (and dyes) to make sculptures, often excellent imitations of the famous masterpieces. The statue is crafted from the finest Italian alabaster, has a creamy finish, and is mounted on dark gray (black) marble base. It is very detailed, as pretty much all Ruggeri’s works. Statue looks simply magnificent – truly amazing piece. It is an amazing David reproduction by G. Ruggeri we have seen thus far. There are no visible damages of any kind, only age appropriate wear. Dimensions bottom of base to top of David’s head 11-1/2” inches tall. Marble base 3-1/8” inches x 3-1/8” inches squared. To prove its authenticity, the statue is marked imprinted “G.Ruggeri” right above the base (Picture #3). Also, important to note, original label still remains on bottom of the base as shown in picture # 4 and states “Sculptor G. Rugerri Made in Italy”. It was created in the mid-20th century. Some history: “Gino Ruggeri, one of the most well-known sculptors in Italy, worked many years for Tito Bianchi in Bianchi's Factory in Tuscany. He developed a means of mixing alabaster with resin to make it more durable and waterproof. He was born in Volterra (Pisa) the country of alabaster. He worked many years for Tito Bianchi who sold out his factory in 1987 to Amilcare Santini. The Santini family now control the rights to Ruggeri's works, i.e. 1987 forward.
