RARE MAURICE SENDAK SIGNED ART Where The Wild Things Are Birthday Party Limited

Description: Maurice Sendak signed print. 'Where The Wild Things Are' Birthday Party- Number 14 out of 300. Amazing condition! Undoubtedly rare. This print was taken out of the frame, as the frame and mat were damaged. The entire print measures 19.5 inches tall, by 21 inches wide. The art itself measures 14 inches tall, by 16 inches wide. I took the measurements on the art without measuring the art that stuck out of the "frame" of art (leaves). The color quality of this print remains in excellent condition. There is some spotting on the very outer edges of the print, as shown. It does not feel damp. It does not have any mildew odor. This print has a personal message that reads: "For John Gleason-with love.-Maurice Sendak". After researching John Gleason, it is apparent that Sendak and Gleason worked on at least one Broadway theater production together. This production being Carol King's "Really Rosie". It is unknown to me if their relationship extended further, though it is likely. John Gleason's career on Broadway began in 1965. He produced all lighting aspects of over 60 Broadway productions in his lifetime. Gleason passed away in 2003, in Watsontown Pennsylvania. The New York Times ran an article about his exceptional life. He lived with his long time partner, William M. Kradlak, who also passed away in Watsontown, PA in 2003, just months after John's passing. Kradlak had an heir, a son, William M. Kradlak II (or JR.). Kradlak II passed in 2021 after a shoot-out with police in his home. This print was recovered from his estate. *I referenced this only to provide clarity on the history and authenticity of this piece. This will be packaged flat, and sent with insurance.
