Description: I still haven't found the exact species classification because this plant does not look like pictures for opuntia tormentosa aka velvet prickly pear, however I believe it is a subspecies of tomentosa that has very little spikes. Because the flowers are the same. However I have not seen this type of plant in many collections. The glochids are fairly soft and non irritating. It doesn't develop anything that can poke you until the plant is mature and even then the spikes are very soft. The main draw is the skin of the cactus is soft and velvety smooth, resembling that of an animal. Very unique species! Please see pictures for details.
