Description: RARE, Very Early Original Antique 6th Plate Daguerreotype Photo of Woman Wearing Bonnet and Holding Eyeglasses, Taken c.1840-1845 DESCRIPTION: Nice early antique daguerreotype image taken during the heyday of popular daguerreotype photography, c1840 - 1850. I apologize for the reflected light/camera in my scans, obviously not part of the actual photo itself, which is quite clear. This dag has great mid-1800's New England subject matter. Older woman, wearing NICE EARLY BONNET and other original period clothes. ALSO HOLDING EARLY EYEGLASSES IN HER HANDS. Set in a nice particularly early 1/6 plate brass mat, and in a full, complete leather case with fancy surface geometric design. Case is in excellent condition except for one small piece missing as shown. Original leather hinge is still there and in PERFECT condition. NICE THAT THIS IS STILL IN THE SAME CASE THAT IT HAS BEEN IN FOR 180+ YEARS!!! This has a VERY EARLY RED SILK PAD RATHER THAN THE LATER VELVET/PLUSH TYPE. These silk pads WERE ONLY USED IN THE EARLIEST DAYS OF DAGS, BEFORE 1840 OR SO. One of the best ways of dating a dag. THAT MUCH RARER TO HAVE SUCH AN EARLY IMAGE IN SUCH CLEAR CONDITION!! THIS IS ONE OF THE NICEST CONDITION IMAGES I HAVE EVER SEEN. A very early woman who from her age may have been born during or before the REVOLUTIONARY WAR!!!
