Rising Sun Japanese Part Of Aircraft Shot Down Nov 4, 1944 Philippine Islands

Description: The metal piece of this Japanese “Zero” fighter aircraft is in good shape and the paint is good. Somebody wrote on the red Rising Sun area the details of where/when they originally secured this prize. It measures approximately 5” x 3”. This was acquired from the estate of a WWII veteran who served in the Pacific theater of operations. Please review pictures provided for details of condition and please ask any questions before purchase. Below is information on the extreme fighting occurring in this region during the timeframe listed on the aircraft piece of metal. On November 5, 1944, the US Navy's Task Force 38 carrier aircraft struck Luzon in the Philippine Islands, sinking the Japanese heavy cruiser Nachi and shooting down 97 Japanese aircraft. The day prior to this large scale attack, a Japanese Zero was shot down and an American soldier cut a piece of that aircraft out as a war prize. I have included a picture for your review of an American soldier actually cutting a piece of a Japanese aircraft wing to keep for himself. This picture was found online and is NOT included in this listing. You are buying only the piece of the aircraft. The picture is to show you that this practice took place and this historically significant piece of aircraft I have for sale meets criteria for provenance. The Imperial Japanese Army overran all of the Philippines during the first half of 1942. The liberation of the Philippines from Japan commenced with amphibious landings on the eastern Philippine island of Leyte on October 20, 1944. The United States and Philippine Commonwealth military forces, with naval and air support from Australia and the Mexican 201st Fighter Squadron, were progressing in liberating territory and islands when the Japanese forces in the Philippines were ordered to surrender by Tokyo on August 15, 1945, after the dropping of the atomic bombs on mainland Japan and the Soviet invasion of Manchuria. Japan officially surrendered to the Allies on 2 September 1945, ending the campain.
