Description: Eye of Shiva Shell (also known as Shiva Eye or Pacific Cat's Eye)It is also known as mermaids' money, and is said to be a good luck charm for fishermen. Shiva Shell is said to symbolise the flow of life and constant change.I have found Shiva Shell to be a very feminine piece to wear and this piece has such a lovely high glossy polish it feels lovely to touch. Back in the sixties they would make Filligree Silver Jewellery using the back of the Stone which displays green and brown tones, this jewellery was called “Cats Eye” as that was what it looked like with the green centre of the shell which is quite hard almost Stone like. Also called the "Operculum"(latin). It is a hard shell that acts as a door that seals the opening of the snail's shell and protects the soft animal`s life. The snail itself pulls this door closed, using its muscle power.The operculum, meaning little lid, is the anatomical structure which exists in many groups of sea snails and freshwater snails, and also in a few groups of land snails. The operculum serves as a sort of "trapdoor" to close the opening of the shell when the soft parts of the animal are retracted. The shape of the operculum varies greatly from one family of gastropods to another. It is fairly often circular, or more or less oval in shape.
