Soviet Fire Guard Sleeve Insignia/Cockade НКЛП Of The Ukrainian SSR 1930’s Height: 39.72 mm Width: 36.68 mm Weight: 6.021 g Translation: НКЛП УССР “People's Commissariat of Heavy Industry” “Ukrainian Soviet Socialist Republic” It is my understanding that this is either a sleeve insignia or a cockade of a fire guard for the People's Commissariat of Heavy Industry in the Ukrainian SSR. This type is scarce dating back to the 1930’s. The prongs are bent but still intact and there is minor wear to the silvering. It also appears that the enamel is exceptionally vibrant but upon closer inspection it looks old possibly original to the piece. Comparing this to other НКЛП Departmental security signs it appears that the original enamels were not of the highest quality to begin with (my own personal opinion based on photos). There is always the possibility it is a somewhat contemporary re-enameling. Regardless, this is a hard to find and intriguing piece of Soviet firefighting history.
