Description: Ethyl silicate-40 Formula RO-[-Si(OR)2 O-]mR, R=C2H5 Molecular weight 745.16 CAS 4935-68-6 CAS: 78-10-4; 1109-96-2; 11099-06-2 Ethyl silicate-40 (ETS-40) is a synthetic organosilicon liquid with a weak ether smell, hydrolyzable with water. The product is used as a starting material for the production of binder castings according to molten models, casting in ceramic molds, in paints, varnishes, etc. Ethyl silicate-40 is obtained by the reaction of silicon tetrachloride and ethyl alcohol. Ethylsilicate-40 is a complex mixture containing tetraethoxysilane and oligoethoxysiloxanes. The composition of the product corresponds to the formula (RO)3Si[OSi(OR)2]4OSi(OR)3, Ethylsilicate-40 contains (411)% SiO2, 10-15% tetraethoxysilane (TEOS), i.e., upon hydrolysis, it gives about 40% conventional SiO2 used for the precipitation of silica (polymeric SiO2 structures) upon complete hydrolysis. The hydrolysis creates ethanol as a by-product. The polymeric SiO2 structures firmly bind inorganic fillers and pigments and adhere well to different inorganic substrates like glass, ceramics or metall. Chemical and mechanical properties of the substrates can be improved by the thin SiO2 film, which is also highly heat-resistant.
