Description: DETAILS: Original pinback button in support of the Harrisburg Eight. Circa 1971. Measures 1 1/2" inches. The Harrisburg Seven (8 less 1 not charged) were a group of religious anti-war activists, led by Philip Berrigan, charged in 1971 in a failed conspiracy case in US federal Court in Harrisburg, Pennsylvania. The seven were Phillip Berrigan, Elizabeth McAlister, Rev. Neil McLaughlin, Rev. Joseph Wenderoth, Eqbal Ahmad, Anthony Scoblick, and Mary Cain Scoblick. The group was unsuccessfully prosecuted for alleged criminal plots during the Vietnam War era. Six of the seven were Roman Catholic nuns or priests. In 1970, the group attracted government attention when Berrigan, then imprisoned, and McAlister were caught trading letters that alluded to kidnapping National Security Advisor Henry Kissinger and blowing up steam tunnels. The accused maintained that there communications were being intentionally misinterpreted by prosecutors and that they were targeted by the US Government because of there opposition to the War in Vietnam. They were all acquitted at trial. For other original left wing political pins be certain to visit our ebay store.
