From the limitation page: "Of this edition of 'The House of Life' there were printed and specially illumined by hand nine hundred & twenty-five copies. This book is number 698. Full title page as follows: "So This Then is The House of Life: Being a Collection of Sonnets by Dante Gabriel Rossetti - Done into a printed book by the Roycrofters at the Roycroft Shop, which is in East Aurora, N.Y., USA". With contents printed at rear. An early Roycroft publication & an excellent example of a 19th century hand-made book from the American Arts & Crafts movement. Elbert Hubbard (1856-1915), prolific American writer, publisher, artist, & philosopher, was an influential exponent of the Arts & Crafts movement. He was born in Bloomington, Illinois, & died when the ship he & his wife were on (RMS Lusitania) was sunk by a torpedo from a German submarine off the coast of Ireland. Bound in publisher's original half suede leather & boards, bright gilt title to front board, gilt-lettered brown leather label to spine. Roycroft watermark paper. Condition: Good, The original silk ribbon page marker has become detached and is now laid in. Suede rubbed, tips worn through to boards, some marginal toning and a stain on a page.
