Description: For your consideration is a wonderful antique book on flora with a wonderful small tie to New England / Civil War history. "Wayside Flowers of Summer" by Harriet Keeler. 1917, and not only a first edition but first printing. Overall condition is well-worn as this was a book donated to the Reading, Ma public library and has the discard stamps and wear to show for it. In particular the cover has a crease down the center as shown. Otherwise good condition with a strong binding, no loose or missing pages, etc. The book can easily and safely be read. Remember, though, it is a 100+ year old book that's not only ex-library but also a field guide. Great illustrations! These early nature books are getting more popular and scarcer! As shown in the photos this was donated by Walter S. Parker, a Reading Mass native who fought in the Civil War (for the North), was an educator, and then would later become Superintendent of Boston Public schools, and in his service he still has a school named after him in Reading. Really unique tie to local history! FREE shipping to the USA and we're happy to ship internationally at cost. Thanks for looking!
