Description: 1942 oral history recorded by WL White of 4 survivors of Motor Torpedo Boat Squadron 3, US Navy, stationed in Manila, Philippine Islands in the opening battles of WW II. The early battles in the Pacific offered few rays of hope and success, and this book documented the exploits of some of the first American war heroes that were in the news. They brought General Douglas McArthur to safety as Manila, Bataan, Corregidor and the entire PI were falling to the Japanese onslaught. This book was later made into a Hollywood movie in 1945. This is the original printing, the book itself is in nice shape, no page tears or dog ears, but there is a corner crease on multiple pages, and a small tear of the rear cover as in the photos. The original dust jacket is in less decent condition. This is inherited from the original owner. It was bought by my father, who in 1942 was graduating from ROTC with a chemical engineering degree and commissioned a Second Lieutenant in the United States Army Air Corps. His book plate is pasted on the inside cover.
