Description: This is an extremely well-preserved trilobite of Crotalocephalus (Crotalocelaphina) gibbus, from Morocco. Crotalocephalus lived during the Early Devonian (395-345 mya) on a prehistoric ocean floor, which is now part of the Atlas mountains of Morocco.Crotalocephalus has small holochroal eyes and a prominent glabella. The hypostome is still intact in this specimen. The fossil measures 3.3 inches long (if straightened) and 1.3 inches wide. Matrix and fossil measure 4.4 inches long, 2.86 inches wide and 2.1 inches high. There is a repair through the right cheek and across the base of the cephalon. In the trilobite -collecting world this is not a detriment. Trilobites are found by smashing open rocks- and the specimens often get broken as a result. It is rare to find an entire, unbroken trilobite. And if one is found, they usually are sold for a premium amount. Many sellers do not disclose that their fossils have been repaired as the repair is often very well done, and virtually undetectable. I believe in full disclosure. All of my fossils are guaranteed authentic and have been legally obtained. All of my fossils are guaranteed authentic and have been legally obtained.
