Description: “Charonia tritonis”, common name the Triton's trumpet, the giant triton or pū[1] is a species of very large sea snail, a marine gastropod mollusc in the family Charoniidae, the tritons. Reaching up to two feet (or 60 cm) in shell length this is one of the biggest mollusks in the coral reef. The Pacific Triton Trumpet was used for millenniums in many parts of the world as a musical instrument for religious & martial occasions. When it tip is cut of & a mouth piece is attached, it produces an eerie sound when blown. It is found in the Indo-Pacific. See photos.
