Description: Beautiful Vatican Bronze Medal Pope Paul II Bust Right Public Cheerfulness - Hilaritas Pvblica Draped Woman Standing For Your Old Bronze Medal or Papal Medal Collection-IT022-MED230 Details Description: A rare early restrike papal states bronze medal with the image of the bust of Pope Paul II on the obverse. Paul II was pope in the period 1464-1471. The reverse shows the images of a standing female figure classically draped. She is looking forward with her right hand supporting a palm branch and her left hand holding a cornucopia. The obverse shows the bust of the pope facing right with the inscription "PAVLVS.II.VENUTUS.PONT.MAX." along the edge surrounding the pontiff's bust. The reverse has a legend "HILARITAS PVBLICA", which translates to Public Cheerfulness, surrounding the image along the edge. An interesting and rare re-strike. The medal is nicely toned in a rich dark brown coloring with very nice eye appeal. The edge of the medal is plain and unmarked. This is a rare nice-looking medal, which would make a worthy addition to any collection. Please carefully review the photos as they are part and parcel of our description. Date: Medal was most likely struck in the mid 1800s. Origin: Vatican or Papal/Roman States. Artist: Unknown. Weight and Size: The medal weighs ~45.7 grams, is ~44 millimeters in diameter, and ~3 millimeters thick at the edge. Maker: Struck by the Mint of Rome. Marks: Unmarked.
