The bookmark is intricately woven in red, blue, gray, black, and yellow silk, and it measures 10” long (including the tassel) by 2-1/4” wide. It features the text: “Souvenir of the World’s Industrial and Cotton Centennial Exposition - New Orleans - 1884-1885,” with a detailed American bald eagle above a shield that reads “Union Confidence.” Manufacturer’s details: “Twelve Highest Medals Awarded To Phoenix Manufacturing Co. and B.B. Tilt & Son - Manufacturers of Illuminated Silk Book Markers, Badges, &c &c. - Patterson, N.J. and Allentown, PA.” This was woven by machinery in the Phoenix Manufacturing Co. exhibit inside the exposition’s Main Building.
