Description: This planter is an original piece from the mid-20th century manufactured by Shawnee Pottery. These long-eared spaniels were made in many colors including the pink, green, blue, yellow and white planters offered here. Besides being able to support miniature gardens (the sellers both remember their mothers growing sweet potato vines in planters on their kitchen window sills), they make delightfully great additions to window sill and counter tops to bring color to your world. The main photo shows the five color variations in this offering. The blue, green and pink planters are in excellent, seemingly unused condition. Some photos show what might be blemishes or flaws, but they're all under glaze, so they came from the factory that way. For example, the blue one is missing some paint from the "floor" of the planter. The yellow planter is also seemingly unused but has a curious thin "stripe" from its head to the planter opening that looks like a crack, but it's under glaze and is therefore a factory straw mark only. The white planter at the factory had black dots for eyes painted under glaze, and the right eye was not well done at the factory. Additionally, it has a very narrow crack on one side. It's detectable with a fingernail, so it truly is a crack, and the stain inside also shows that it has been used for its intended purpose: to hold a plant in soil. No amount of scrubbing and soaking would loosen that stain, but that also did not deter us one bit from displaying it for decades alongside the others on a shelf in our living room. Nonetheless, the asking price for the white planter does reflect the issues cited.
