Beautiful plein air style loose brush work, in original gold frame. Oil on canvas panel. Circa early to mid 20th Century, mid Century Calif. desert plein air. Additional research: "Ruth Upjohn Gallery, Women’s Art Association of Canada". There is a Ruth Upjohn who was active and known in Canada for the 'Upjohn Gallery'. This painting was purchased in an area where Canadian patrons visit so its likely that this oil is fron this particular artist. Further research is needed. Has as a loose impressionist technique similar to the work of Group of Seven, possible influence and modernist modern desert lean, this piece could be described as brush work from a Canadian perspective. Ruth Upjohn painting would be quite rare if its her work since she was mostly known for support of Muskoka art and with the Women's AA of Canada... Would appeal to collectors of Fred Penney, Paul Grimm, John Hilton, John Anthony Conner, Fitch Wray, Nevada Wilson, and other early California desert impressionist painting collections.
