The Sea King series is still present in the portfolio of the American manufacturer. These models are unique divers, the water resistance of which often reaches the WR1000, their cases are powerful, and the watches themselves indicate their professional use at the very first contact. Out of curiosity, I started looking for information about whales on Bulova's watches, and it turned out that to tell a story from the beginning, you have to go back to 1836! That year was a turning point for many residents of Sag Harbor (a village in Suffolk, New York) in what they did all their lives. You should know that Sag Harbor, as its name suggests, was a port village. Most of its inhabitants worked hard in all kinds of fishing. In 1836, whaling was almost over. Therefore, in 1836, the townspeople built a cotton factory at the intersection of Washington Street and Hampton Road. The situation would have been for the best, but there was a huge fire in Sag Harbor, which also burned down the factory to the ground. A new factory was built right next to the port. The owner was Joseph Fahys (by the way one of the first to produce watch cases in the USA), who moved from Queens with his watch manufacture, thanks to which he created thousands of jobs for residents. However, the great economic crisis of 1929-1933 did not spare the watch industry. At the Fahys factory, production dropped and in 1936 the Bulova Watch Company rented the floor of this enormous building and began creating envelopes there. It was the first Bulova envelope factory in the United States! Very fast development allowed for the takeover of the entire building. In 1959 Bulova released the first model from the Sea King series. Interestingly, the whale logo does not appear on every copy of the Sea King. Sometimes there was the word "Sea King" itself, sometimes both the lettering and the logo of this mammal.
