Please read the "entire" description on the color of velvet. From my children's hat and bonnet collection. This is an extremely RARE Gay Ninties hat, which I can not believe this has still survived. It fits a young girl between 8 and 10 of age. Please note: the velvet shows as a bright goldish brown, it is actually medium goldish/brown. A deeper color than shown. My camera could not pick up the true color. Not as bright as the photo's portray. Wanted to make a note of this. Great for a large Victorian antique doll or display. These "flat" hats sat "perched" at the very back of the head along the crown. They were wide for a reason, to frame the face of the wearer so that the eye's were drawn to the wearers face. As a picture frame encases a painting. This is hand constructed in an oval shape. Sturdy and strong. Buckram has been used inside the center crown and between the front and back velvet as a stabilizer. Inside, there is blue fabric beneath the buckram. Polished cotton is sewn over the inside crown to hide the buckram. Hat edged in black velvet. Some loving mother took special care in creating this beauty. This is a winter hat due to the coloring, possibly school hat, or fine church hat for Sunday Best. Hat measures 10" in length, 12" in width. Height, crown only, 3/4", velvet ribbon ties 22", large bow at back 5" X 5" in size. Two smaller velvet bows adorn each side of the hat. Two ostrich feathers are set on a curve and coil around the top crown, measure 6", long velvet tails hang from the large bow at lower back, measures 14". Black wired cording encircle the top crown. Wear along the velvet around the outer crown from age. Entire inside brim edged in wire for strength. Lower right are next to large bow the velvet shows shredding from age. Extremely well made. Hat is superb condition with the two flaws mentioned. Hat shown as is. All sales final. NO INTERNATIONAL SHIPPING. Thank you.
