Description: Vintage structured Beret, Beanie or Pillbox is made of creamy white Pique with a turned up brim of Purple or Navy silk velvet. The label reads "An Austelle Fashion" with copyright, and a second label reads "22"--that must be the size, although I measure 20 and three-quarters inches around interior band. There is a striking fabric decoration on the band, made of a ribbed silk and looking like a shell. The fabrics involved insure that this is a 4-season hat: Pique being summery, and silk velvet being very much wintery. I'm pegging this hat all the way back to the very stylish 1930s (or possibly 40s), when it most likely would have been worn by someone under 30 and at the back of the head like a sophisticated Beanie. However, I think it looks smashing as a tilted beret! The silk velvet warrants a mention: you just don't see this kind of beautiful velvet anymore, anywhere! The color has been hard to settle on: sometimes I am sure it is a very dark navy, in another light it may look like a deep blue-purple. Altogether, fascinating and adorable.
