Rough translation on the back of the plate celebrates the completion of the Kawamichi Building in August 1973 The design on the plate features traditional Imari style: blocks of color around the plate, with white chrysanthemums on a rust color background and hand painted gold gilding throughout. The design is filled with symbolism featuring a Takarabune Treasure boat, cranes and a turtle.This plate measures 16" in diameter and stands almost 2" High and weighs 4 1/2 pounds. Original wood box is included. In Japanese folklore, the Takarabune (宝船), or "Treasure Ship", is a mythical ship piloted through the heavens by the Seven Lucky Gods. The treasures they bring on takarabune are a hat of invisibility, rolls of brocade, an inexhaustible purse, the keys to the treasure house of the gods, the scrolls and books of wisdom and life, the magic mallet, the lucky raincoat, a robe of fairy feathers and a bag of fortune.
