Description: Vintage Bausch & Lomb Ray-Ban Aviator Outdoorsman 58-14 sunglasses with case. The sunglasses are marked “B&L RAY-BAN 58ú14” across the underside of the bridge and “BL” (for Bausch & Lomb) is etched in the lenses near the hinges. The sunglasses have a gold tone finish, wraparound arms, and green impact-resistant lenses. The exact age of the sunglasses is unknown, but they may be from the 1960s-1970s. The sunglasses were probably made in the U.S. The sunglasses are from the estate of Richard “Bubba” Heinisch (1934-2018), a U.S. Air Force B-47 Stratojet Navigator/Bombardier with the 96th Bombardment Wing, F-100 Super Sabre fighter pilot with the 352nd Tactical Fighter Squadron, and TWA pilot for 23 years. The sunglasses appear to be in excellent used condition with signs of age and wear, such as fading and yellowing of the plastic parts (e.g., the bridge and nose pads), minor scratches, scrapes, abrasions, nicks, indentations, and pits. There also appears to be some oxidation on the metal frames adjacent to the lenses. The lenses appear to be in excellent used condition with very minor scratches, scrapes, abrasions, and nicks (these may be difficult to see with the naked eye and in the photos). There appear to be two small spots of discoloration on the arms. The arm hinges are a bit loose but work well. The arms appear to be slightly bent as well. The sunglasses were cleaned, but there may also be some minor soiling in some of the recessed areas. The case appears to be in excellent used condition with signs of age and wear, such as some loss of finish on the top of the snap fastener, wear marks on the plastic and felt in the interior of the case where they have come into contact with the sunglasses, some soiling on the felt on the interior flap of the case, minor wear on the printed Ray-Ban logo, and minor wear on the edges and raised areas of the case. Some of these imperfections are most noticeable when the sunglasses are viewed at certain angles and lighting. Some imperfections may be a result of the manufacturing process. A very nice example of vintage Ray-Ban aviator sunglasses! Please see photos, as they constitute part of the description.
