Wallace Seawell was born in Sarasota, Florida, and graduated from Rochester Institute of Technology in New York, specializing in photography. He enlisted into the Army Signal Corps during World War II. After the war, he moved to California, where he joined photographer Paul Hesse at his prominent studio on Sunset Boulevard. During his twenty-year tenure with Hesse, he headed the portrait, fashion and theatrical departments—becoming known for his personal approach in portrait studies of top film stars and powerful people including kings, queens, U.S. presidents, corporate executives and socialites. After Paul Hesse retired, Seawell converted his music room into a studio and continued doing portraiture work of major celebrities such as Elizabeth Taylor, Joan Collins, Ava Gardner, Ronald and Nancy Reagan, Diana Ross, Carol Channing, Sophia Loren, Zsa Zsa Gabor and many others.
