Wireless RF Data Link System 315 MHz -- for PICAXE, PIC, Arduino, Basic Stamp

Description: Forming a wireless RF data link using inexpensive RF modules can be very frustrating and time consuming. Solderless breadboards are very convenient for prototyping, but RF receiver modules are sensitive to noise typically present on the power rails of solderless breadboards. On top of that, you need to develop a data transmission protocol that “conditions” the RF receiver module for receiving data, allows the receiver to recognize the data, and includes error check byte(s) to ensure the integrity of the data. The Wireless RF Data Link System includes a Transmitter Board and a Receiver Board with serial data communication interfaces and 315 MHz RF modules for transmitting data wirelessly between two processors (e.g., microcontrollers with UARTs such as PICs, PICAXEs, Basic Stamps, Arduinos, etc.). The data is transmitted wirelessly between the two processors in data packets each including 4 data bytes. Overall data throughput can be up to 60 data bytes per second (480 data bits per second) at distances of at least 50 feet indoors through typical interior doors and walls. (All systems tested for communication indoors over 50 feet through multiple interior walls.) The Transmitter Board receives 4 data bytes via TTL RS-232 serial communication (4800 baud 8-N-1 inverted), generates a data packet including the 4 data bytes, and transmits the data packet to the Receiver Board via a wireless RF data link. The Receiver Board receives the data packet via the wireless RF data link, checks the integrity of the 4 data bytes, and sends the 4 data bytes to a connected processor via TTL RS-232 serial communication (4800 baud 8-N-1 inverted). NOTE: Processor 4800 baud 8-N-1 inverted (idle low) TTL RS-232 serial communication at both ends is fixed and cannot be changed. The Transmitter Board includes a Transmitter Controller (integrated circuit microcontroller) that generates a conditioning signal for the Receiver Board that precedes the data packet, and uses the 4 data bytes to generate a 8-bit cyclic redundancy check (CRC) value that is transmitted as part of the data packet. The Receiver Board includes a Receiver Controller (integrated circuit microcontroller) that receives the data packet, uses the 4 data bytes to generate a second 8-bit CRC value, and compares the received CRC value with the generated CRC value to ensure the integrity of the transmitted data. Transmitter Board and Receiver Board each include $20.00+ worth of parts. RF modules with standard footprints are socketed on the Transmitter Board and the Receiver Board for quick and easy replacement. Comprehensive 9-page User Manual included with connection diagrams and PICAXE BASIC code examples. NOTE: The Wireless Radio Frequency (RF) Data Link System is intended to be used for prototype, design, and experimental purposes.
